Pat Teagarden served the Fort Wayne Sport Club and the broader Fort Wayne soccer community in many capacities over his long and distinguished career. Pat’s passion for the game was evidenced in his love for playing the game, his dedication to bringing the game to new players and his commitment to educating young coaches.
Pat played the game he loved throughout his life and was seen on the fields at the Sport Club many a night and weekend. He coached in the early youth leagues of Fort Wayne, served as Homestead High School’s first soccer coach and was named the first Director of Coaching for the Sport Club where he hoped to build a first rate youth program. In addition, he was instrumental in the formation of the Fort Wayne Adult Soccer League in the late 70’s. For decades he mentored young coaches, both informally and as part of US Soccer’s Coaching Education Staff. Perhaps the way in which his legacy lives on best, as those young coaches now impact hundreds of young players with Pat’s voice in their heads.
Pat was inducted into the Indiana Soccer Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2009 and then into the Indiana Soccer Hall of Fame in 2011.
Pat’s passion, dedication and love for the “beautiful game” provided the core for his relationship with so many individuals involved in soccer within the city of Ft Wayne and the state of Indiana.
It is fitting that we capture his spirit and replicate his belief in the camaraderie of the game by founding The Pat Teagarden Memorial Cup and dedicating it in his honor. We hope you enjoy your participation!
